Born in South Central Queensland, Steve Lind grew up in a neighbourhood
consumed with drive-bys and mini mall street life. His mother
hustled keys on the side as a piano teacher just to put food
on the table, and always dreamt of a better life for her son,
where the only skins he would be beating were attached to a
drum kit.
He woke up one day and decided that music and not automatic
weapons would rule his destiny, pimping himself out to various
small time bands throughout the sunshine state.
Being true to the game, diversity was always important to make
sure his dream of gold chains and Cadillacs was realised. Having
played everything from Funk, Ska, Punk, Metal, Rock and even
Country it’s no wonder that when Steve Lind is behind
the ones and twos you never know what to expect, except a full
house with hands in the air.
Moving from Brisbane to Canberra in 2004 to lay low after the
Eastside/Westside turf war got too hot, Steve Lind quickly became
one of the most in demand DJ’s on the circuit. Hooking
up with Canberra’s most successful promotions crew, Friction,
he jumped straight in the deep end landing supports for some
of the biggest acts in dance music, and residencies to die for.
Pretty soon Steve had playa haters scratching their heads thinking
‘Who the hell is this guy?’
Word spread and Steve Lind found himself on the highway to
the bright lights of Sydney, initially rocking guest spots at
the legendary Chinese Laundry, until the inevitable move to
Sydney saw him take up residencies at Break Inn on Friday nights
(3D World club night of the year 2006), and the Laundry on Saturday
nights, demolishing the Sandbar on a weekly basis.
Now Steve can be found pimping out his skills all across Sydney,
while still making regular interstate appearances across Australia.
With career highlights that already include phone calls from
Krafty Kuts demanding to know the bombs he was dropping, playing
Sydney Good Vibrations Stage as a warm up for Beastie Boys &
Snoop Dogg, a triple J mix up, a NYE show alongside the renowned
Z-Trip and gigs alongside The Nextmen, Dexter & Koolism,
it’s clear that many regard Steve Lind as the best party
DJ in the country.
